MEET THE COACHES
FOUNDER MEMBER & TEAM CAPTAIN
I started boxing training in my early thirties after a chance meeting with my now very good friend and former professional boxer Steve Loftus as a way of keeping fit for work. There was a lot of interest from others at work so regular classes started on a weekly basis until such time that the demand meant a premises was rented and the BGBA was formed.
Since then, the club has held a number of events to raise money for various charities and our members have travelled literally all over the world competing against other police establishments. Throughout this time, we have adhered closely to the principles on which the club was founded; to provide a safe place to train for anyone, regardless of ability, in a safe, family orientated environment.
I started boxing at the BGBA around 5 years ago just to keep fit. I then went on to have my first fight against the NYPD a short 6 months later and it all went from there.
I have been coaching classes for the last 4 years and I have represented BGBA both home and away against the fire service, Police Scotland and NYPD. I love to box, I am the fittest I have ever been and what better way to burn off the frustration after a tough few days at work.
Boxing has traditionally been thought of as a male dominated sport, but over recent years women have started to more than hold their own in this sport. It is fantastic if you want to just keep fit and have no interest in fighting but we are more than capable of keeping up with the boys in sparring if that takes your fancy.
EX-PROFESSIONAL BOXER & COACH
I have been involved in boxing for over 30 years now and have fought as both an amateur and professional. In my mid-thirties, I was on the fringes of the sport and not really involved with any gym, when I was approached and asked to become involved with the BGBA.
This appointment renewed my passion for the sport and I'm happy to be involved with a team of great and dedicated people who, through hard work and immense courage, have made a difference to the lives of many disabled children thanks to the hundreds of thousands of pounds raised through our boxing events.
I had been to watch the BGBA boxing events numerous times and always wanted to give it a go. It looked fun and was always for a good cause. Three years ago, I did and have not looked back.
The BGBA is a great place to come to and improve fitness in a friendly environment with like minded people who are always ready to offer advice and lend a hand if needed. I'm looking forward to being able to train old and new members, so if you are keen, step up, glove up and let's see where the path will take you!
I got into boxing purely to improve my fitness three years ago. Having enjoyed the training that much, I put myself forward for an inter-force fight followed by a fight against the service of Jersey last year.
I thoroughly enjoy the fitness training and the boxing training. The Blue Glove is a great place for both, I look forward to seeing you there...
I joined BGBA in 2012 in an attempt to get fitter. My first fight was the same year and I have since fought 6 more times including fighting against the NYPD in New York.
I am proud to be a part of a great team of people who collectively have raised thousands for local children's charities and I'm looking forward to coaching both old and new BGBA members
Jim will be known to most of you, he brings a wealth of experience in many different forms of self defense as well as diet and nutrition.
